Mute Rituals
by Morgan Crowcroft-Brown
As much as we love a bit of colour, we feel like it’s time to go back to basics on our next project. So for the month of March we’ll be releasing a B&W zine from a different artist every Thursday via our online store.
XZines will be an ongoing project as we aim to feature photographers we adore in our all-time favourite format. Kicking off the project will be the very talented Ada Hamza, Jacob Wallwork, Marcel Rollock and Morgan Crowcroft-Brown.
To wrap the project this week is Mute Rituals by Morgan Crowcroft-Brown. Describing subtle senatorial experiences, Mute Rituals uses images of trees and nudes to emphasise the textural familiarity of the respective forms. After reading about Marcel Duchamp’s idea of ‘infrathin’, a conceptual instrument for describing those fleeting moments where imagination and visual memory create a rich description for the physical present, Morgan decided to focus her attention to the way textures imprint on memory. Mute Rituals brings together the ways in which skin and bark trigger nostalgic memory and evoke distinct images in the viewers mind.
